![]() ![]() While the storyline can seem tangential at times, it is truly beautiful how it all comes together. There are hilarious moments (like describing ways to rid yourself of witches!) but also consistent themes of race, poverty, drugs, class and violence the way McBride balances such heavy themes with this delightful storyline is artful and genius. The first chapter lays out several of the characters, which provides a useful reference as you are getting to know each of them. There are quite a few characters to keep track of, and multiple storylines. The way this story develops, and ultimately comes together is poetic. The characters are dynamic, interesting and colorful. The writing is lyrical (and I think it would be a great audiobook for that reason!). Complicated, complex, charming, comedic and profound. ![]() What a book! Read this, there is a reason it was on nearly every notable “Best Of 2020” booklist. ![]()
